I Have GTD Syndrome and It’s Spreading Like a Wildfire: September 5, 2008

GTD sounds like a disease, and in some minds it is. GTD is a coined phrase “Getting Things Done” that was brought about by a gentleman by the name of David Allen. The phrase refers to a systematic process of management of time and productivity. It’s something I think we all need, especially me. I had mentioned in my journal I have a tendency to procrastinate sometimes, and I found a parallel with an article which talked about making excuses for things not getting done. I enjoyed reading the tone in his posts. I’ve been indirectly using some of the GTD process and didn’t know it. I am a folderholic with all of my paperwork and action items with projects. I have also been known to have a tickler file that I only put the next most important thing I’m supposed to be working on inside.

There are many productivity tools and blogs that relate to this process, and I’m surprised I haven’t heard about the process sooner. There are so many applications for your PC, phone, or PDA, to help you manage the chaos of being techy nut. In fact, one could be procrastinating on projects right now because they’re reading about cool ways to use Wikipedia, improving one’s RSS feed reading skills, etc. I can appreciate this methodology and I’m totally on board with using different tools to increase my productivity as a Web designer or anything I want to accomplish. Just what I need, a few more logs on the fire to burn. Except this fire can only help not distract.

I really enjoyed the article you linked. I have been trying to tell my wife the same things about her getting her photography business up and moving and some of it has helped her move it forward but i still think she can do and be better than she is right now. I am also trying to psh myself with a few other things but i am having to do all they saying and telling part to my self (kind of tuff but I am trying). I am printing the blog post for me and my wife so we can have a copy at each of our desks to look at everytime we sit down at our computer for whatever reason. I have also subscribed to the blog as well. And I think I will make her be accountable for me checking in to make sure I am Getting Things Done. Thanks again.
